Marie Ulven, also known as girl in red, has announced her debut album ‘if i could make it go quiet,’ which is coming out on April 30th via AWAL. The Norwegian pop artist has released a couple of tracks already, including ‘serotonin’ which was co-produced by FINNEAS, Billie Eilish’s brother.
The first song released from the upcoming album: ‘Rue’ focuses on Marie’s fight with her mental health, and how she “felt like a burden to her family,” while ‘serotonin’ is about her dark intrusive thoughts. ‘serotonin’ features a fairly upbeat production that is very different to what both girl in red and FINNEAS are used to making. This album is already sounding like a very raw release that focuses on taboo topics that people are not aware of, or do not talk about enough. It is great that Marie is using her stories and experiences, sharing her feelings and producing such a personal album that people can relate (and probably cry) to.
The debut album is sounding like it is going to be more mature and personal to her prereleased music. In an interview with DIY Magazine, Marie said how she was writing a lot about overcoming her struggles and mental health: “I’m writing a lot about my mental health and the different sides of love – you know, the type of things that take up my time.”
In the past few years, we have already heard a couple of EPs – chapter one and chapter two, with a Christmas single called ‘Two Queens in A King-sized Bed’ which was released in December of 2020.
girl in red has already had great success in her career so far, and the highly anticipated album is very close to being released.
