Rip It Up, a bespoke bursary programme, has launched in the United Kingdom. They will support ten Black, Asian and diverse artists and aspiring industry professionals aged 18-55 to make an impact on the music industry.
The programme is held over six months, where young creatives can immerse themselves into educational sessions about social media, organising shows, recording and production, publishing, press and campaign management. The successful applicants will also receive support, which includes training and mentorship. Those applying for the programme as an aspiring industry professional will undertake a paid placement at a creative business, in order to kick-start their experience. Artists will be able to obtain funding, to record a studio single and promote their release.
The project is lead by industry innovator Yaw Owusu, from The Playmaker Group. The programme will feature speaker sessions from Seye Adelekan, (Gorillaz), breakthrough rock favourites Nova Twins, Vanessa Bakewell – Global Client Partner (Facebook), Achal Dhillon – Managing Director of Killing Moon, Liam James Ward of Be-Hookd Digital, with more to be announced over the coming months.
The project is supported by the Youth Music Incubator Fund, and applications are open until February 15th 2021. The programme is for Black, Asian and diverse young people from across the North West, aged 18-25.
