North East musician Nadine Shah will be making her acting debut as Titania in a production of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream this Autumn.

Nadine Shah is a singer, songwriter and musician based in the North East of England. In 2018, her album Holiday Destination was nominated for a Mercury Prize, alongside nominees like Wolf Alice and Arctic Monkeys. Shah’s 2020 album Kitchen Sink was described by Pitchfork as invoking “The surreal melodramas of Björd and the wry social commentary of Pulp”. She has recently supported artists like Suede and Patti Smith on tour and has played festival stages at Glastonbury, Deer Shed, Green Man and All Points East.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be directed by Matthew Dunster, who worked on 2:22: A Ghost Story at the Noël Coward Theatre in 2021. His production of Love and Money by Dennis Kelly was nominated for the Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre in 2006, and his work on an adaptation of Vivienne Franzmann’s Mogadishu was nominated for the same award in 2012. At the 2016 Olivier Awards, Dunster was nominated for the Best Director Award for his work on Hangmen by Martin McDonagh.

The play will star David Morrissey as Oberon, known for his roles in The Walking Dead, Welcome to the Punch and Blitz. The production will be hosted at the new Shakespeare North Playhouse venue in Prescot, Merseyside. Tickets are still available for purchase from the venue’s website here.
