Foo Fighters spoke to Jo Whiley at BBC Radio 2’s Sofa Session, alongside their performance. Their set included ‘Waiting on a War’, one of the new tracks from their recent album Medicine at Midnight, and a cover of the Bee Gee’s disco tune, ‘You Should Be Dancing.‘
Dave Grohl spoke about how the band had a to-do list, and one of those things was that they needed to record a cover for Jo. The Bee Gees came into the conversation, discussing their new documentary Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart. The documentary was released in December of 2020, leading to Foo Fighters deciding to cover one of their tracks. The cover in question, ‘You Should Be Dancing’, is a track from their 1977 album Saturday Night Fever.
The cover is pretty impressive, it almost sounds like the classic disco tune, but with a twist of Foo Fighters’ authentic rock vibe. This is a crossover that I never knew I needed.
Dave explained the process of creating the cover, and how he had never sung like that before. He also said that he should have been signing like the Bee Gees for the past twenty-five years of his career. Grohl went on to say that it was the “easiest song I have ever sung in my life… I have never done that before!”
Jo suggested that the Foo Fighters should sing the track at every live show they perform at, with Dave suggested that plans are in the works. Hopefully, this means that the cover could potentially hold a spot in the setlist. You can check out the whole BBC Sofa Session here.
