Abbey Road Studios to host International Women’s Day Festival 2021

Abbey Road Studios have announced their 2021 event for International Women’s Day. The event features a series of masterclasses and mentorship sessions, to address the gender imbalance in the music industry.

The event is called Equalise, intending to highlight the fact that less than 5% of music producers and engineers are women. The event will host a range of events over the week, free to all attendees:

  • Thursday, March 4th: Becoming a Recording and Mixing Engineer: A panel moderated by Keychange ambassador and mastering engineer Darcy Proper, with Fiona Cruikshank, Dani Bennett-Spragg and Charlie Deakin-Davies.
  • Friday, March 5th: The Path to Production: A panel moderated by Keychange priest manager Maxie Gedge, with Georgia, Shurta, Cosha and Hannah V.
  • Sunday, March 7th: Becoming an Artist: A panel moderated by BBC Radio 1’s Abbie McCarthy, with Baby Queen, Hamzaa, Kali Claire and Cloves.

“2021 already feels like a brighter, more optimistic year, so it’s exciting to see so many of our friends coming together to inspire the next generation as part of our Abbey Road Equalise virtual festival for International Women’s Day. I’m thrilled that we’re able to extend the week beyond panel discussions and masterclasses, with one-to-one mentoring for those who want to understand the roles beyond music production and engineering, too. I’m looking forward to when we can bring everyone together in person to further this agenda.” – Isabel Garvey, managing director of Abbey Road Studios

The virtual festival will take place from the 1st to the 8th of March, at www.abbeyroad.com/equalise
