Generator has recently launched Create:Live, a project which will train young people across the North East to become the next generation of live music promoters.
Funded by the Youth Music Incubator Fund, Create:Live is training ten young people the various skills they need to be a live music promoter, and to ultimately host their own event.
Generator is a business support agency based in Newcastle, providing various levels of assistance to businesses across the UK. They specialise in the music and creative industry, with a mission statement to support and empower individual talent. They host projects like songwriting residencies, networking sessions, business coaching and industry advice sessions.
“The North East is becoming increasingly dominated by a few large promoters, which reduces opportunities for emerging artists and diversity of both audiences and artists. Creating a new peer network of promoters across the regions preserves a space for talent development, increases diversity and access of artists and audience, promotes collaboration and co-creation, and strengthens the grassroots music community.” – Generator
The Create:Live project will provide skills that are transferable to other music industry roles, such as artist management, festival production, tour management and artist liaison. As part of the placement, participants will be invited to relevant industry insight events, to plan their event and support their development. Successful applicants will be matched with a relevant mentor and have regular meetings, to provide guidance throughout the programme. Participants will also receive a budget of £1,000 to spend on venue hire, artist and crew fees, advertising and promotion for their events.
