Black Honey Share Hypothetical Festival, Titled ‘Dream Fest’

Due to the lack of women and marginalised people on festival lineups, Black Honey and The Forty-Five have curated the hypothetical Dream Fest. The festival poster was created to dispute the claims that there ‘isn’t enough women in music.’

The Dream Fest poster was designed by Harriet Brown and illustrates the hundreds of overlooked artists who could be performing on festival lineups around the world. Each artist on the poster features female members, or those from a marginalised background, in order to increase diversity in the live music industry. Although live events aren’t able to be held safely in the current climate, the theoretical event would be a major breakthrough for marginalised artists.

“This is DreamFest 2021 it’s an imaginary indie-leaning curated lineup for The UK. It’s celebrating women & marginalised people across the musical spectrum. Apart from this being a really fun project, listening to loads of amazing music. When women raise up other women we break systemic bias. We inspire young women & marginalised people to have the confidence to get that leadership role, start a band, or boss that essay. This is bigger & more important than shouting into the void.” Black Honey

Black Honey suggested the poster would be a positive influence on event bookers, who could ‘potentially take inspiration from the post.’ Fans of Black Honey were also able to promote their favourite artists who would fit the bill, in response to the post. The poster promotes artists as large as Lorde and Wolf Alice, to smaller artists like The Cosmics.

“Let’s make the change we wanna see. Let’s support other women & the LGBTQ+ community, let’s team up. Let’s better the world we live in. Let’s grow. Something that you can do right now is go check out these artists. You might find something amazing when you make an effort to listen more diversely.”
