In aid of War Child, Arctic Monkeys have announced that they will be releasing a new live album, from their London Royal Albert Hall Show in 2018. All proceeds from the recorded show were donated to the charity, fundraising for the protection, education, and rehabilitation of children who have experienced the trauma of conflict and war.
The performance was recorded at the start of the band’s Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino tour in 2018 and features 20 tracks in total. The release will be available on limited edition clear double vinyl, black doubly vinyl, double CD, and digitally.
War Child is an international charity, based in London, who protect and support children affected by war. The charity’s fundraising heavily involves the music industry, allowing fans of all genres to support vulnerable children. BRITs Week partners with O2 each year, to host some of the biggest names in music, in intimate venues around London. People are able to purchase a raffle ticket for individual shows, for a chance to gain a ticket for their show. All proceeds from the shows go to War Child, allowing the cause to gain vital funding for their work.
‘The situation that was bad in 2018 is now desperate, and those children and their families need our help more than ever. To enable War Child UK to reduce their funding deficit and continue their valuable work, we are happy to be able to release a live album, recorded that evening at The Royal Albert Hall. All proceeds will go directly to the charity. We thank all our fans in advance for their support of this release and in turn for their support of War Child UK.’
In 2020, the BRITs Week shows featured artists like Foals, Louis Tomlinson and Bastille. In 2019, War Child estimated that the BRITs Week shows raised £502,000, hosted in venues such as Camden Assembly and Omeara. The proceeds from this live album will be donated, to help fill what could be up to a £2 million deficit the charity is facing in 2021. As a result of the pandemic, War Child is unable to fundraise as usual, with donations being needed more than ever at this time.
