Lily Allen has announced her partnership with Womanizer, to release her own sex toy. ‘Liberty’ by Lily Allen has been advertised as a collaboration to help us ‘empower and love ourselves.’
Allen released her new product as Womanizer’s ‘first Chief Liberation Officer.’ The announcement was coupled with Womanizer’s new #IMASTURBATE campaign, which also launched last week.
The London born singer, known for her tracks Smile and LDN, has always been publicly supportive of women’s independence and empowerment. Following Robin Thicke’s 2013 music video release for Blurred Lines, audiences began to spectate that the references to barely clothed women and Thicke’s genitalia were in poor taste for pop music. Following the release, Allen released Hard Out Here, a feminist anthem that protested against misogyny in the entertainment industry.
“Loving yourself should be the most normal thing in the world. The only way to make taboo subjects no longer taboo, is to speak about them openly, frequently, and without shame or guilt.”
– Lily Allen
The Womanizer brand was launched in Metten, Lower Bavaria by Michael Lenke and his wife Brigitte. Their patented Pleasure Air Technology was developed after Lenke recognised the lack of technological progression in the market of female sex toys. The Womanizer is now available for purchase in over 30 countries worldwide, with their team working to ‘break down stigmas regarding female sexuality.’
The promotion from Lily Allen has started a wider discussion about the stigma surrounding female sexuality. Additionally, surrounding how women in the public eye are able to support and promote discussions about taboo topics, in order to normalise conversations around people’s sexual health and wellbeing.
