Kawala Announced as Newly Appointed Patrons for the Music Venue Trust

Camden’s own KAWALA has been announced as one of the latest patrons for the Music Venue Trust. The band also recorded a live stream at Hoxton Hall, to fundraise for the charity.

A charity close to many musicians’ hearts, the MVT was established to protect grassroots music venues around the United Kingdom, to ensure that smaller artists have access to creative spaces.

“It’s a complete honour for us to be made Patrons of this incredibly important charity to help campaign for the protection and funding of grassroots music venues. The thought of losing venues across the country due to our politicians failing to prioritise the value of arts and culture is a real concern for us as a touring band, and we need to make sure the venues and the people that work in the sector are protected so that there is an industry to come back to. We will do everything in our power to support the amazing work that the Music Venue Trust does behind the scenes.”

Kawala’s bright and emphatic sound has been compared to the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club and Glass Animals, gaining a strong following up and down the UK. Their folk influences have conjured a unique indie sound, something that can be hard to find in today’s alternative scene. Their summer-like style comes from intricate guitar melodies, and softly spoken vocals, developing a nostalgic sense of a time in the sun.

The Music Venue Trust was created in 2014, to protect, secure, and improve the UK’s grassroots music venues. These small rehearsal studios and pub venues need to be salvaged from their potential closure, which has occurred as a result of COVID-19. A lack of funding has meant that many venues across the country are at risk of permanent closure, caused by the lack of events happening in 2020. The Music Venue Trust works with over 900 independent venues, in order to #SaveOurVenues.
