Delve into the new sad-country universe created by Billie Eilish in her third single ‘Your Power’, taken from her upcoming studio album ‘Happier Than Ever’.
One of the most influential female rebels of our century, 19-year-old Billie Eilish has kept the whole music industry on edge with teasers of her upcoming album. After releasing ‘my future‘ and ‘Therefore I Am‘, we are now seeing a new softer side of the singer, through falsetto country music.
In this acoustic release, she recounts an abusive and manipulative relationship she experienced when she was 16, and how that experience has affected her mentally over the years. In the self-directed music video, Eilish is strangled by a snake, representing the hold the relationship had over her. She believed that she was guilty for her partner’s self-destruction, when he broke his hand hitting a wall.
“I thought that I was special,
You made me feel,
Like it was my fault, you were the devil”
This newer, softer track might be Eilish’s way of catching some of Taylor Swift’s fanbase. The song is built on an acoustic guitar melody, and wonderful lyricism about relationships. Billie Eilish’s new releases are all about empowerment, turning negative energy into positive energy, and creating change in a toxic mindset. Via Instagram, she wrote:
“This is one of my favourite songs I’ve ever written. I feel very vulnerable putting this one out because I hold it so close to my heart. This is about many different situations that we’ve all either witnessed or experienced. I hope this can inspire change. Try not to abuse your power”.
