Baby Queen is back, and with her, she brings her latest bop ‘Dover Beach’!
Baby Queen is one of the many artists who used last year’s lockdown to their advantage, despite the unfortunate circumstances happening around the world. Over the past year, she has kept busy and managed to release multiple singles and an EP. This has earned her a big following, accumulating over 6 million streams on Spotify. This is an extremely impressive feat for an artist whose debut single was released less than a year ago.
Baby Queen’s latest single ‘Dover Beach’ is a banging pop song that has a four-to-the-floor beat that keeps you moving throughout the song. This, paired along with the smashing chorus, makes ‘Dover Beach’ the perfect summer song that can be played at any party, regardless of the size or occasion. While the upbeat melodies and mood of the song can mask the sadder and lonelier meaning of the lyrics, I still wouldn’t consider this a sad break-up song. Rather, it’s a song that can strengthen the listener and support them to move on, regardless of their losses and history that haunts them.
It is an accomplishment to manage to write a song with a happy mood that hides darker lyrics, but Baby Queen has managed to do it in this single. The synths, beats and falsetto vocals of the song remind me of the Scissor Sister’s song I Don’t Feel Like Dancin’ in the best possible ways. I think that the balance between familiarity, nostalgia and happiness is what makes the perfect pop song.
Now, if you excuse me, I will have to quit writing so I can start dancing to this absolute bop by Baby Queen, a fitting name for a new singer who constantly releases banger after banger.
