This Hampshire trio has once again demonstrated that less is more when it comes to creating melodic and harmonious tunes. Drug Store Romeos use their music as a way to escape reality and to romanticise the ordinary, bringing a sense of relatability that anyone can feel represented by. They successfully take our minds off of reality through their mellow and dream-like tracks, especially in their new single ‘What’s On Your Mind’.
This simple four-verse song creates haunting and beautiful imagery through the calm vocals and soft instrumentals. It immediately feels like you’ve entered a dream, where you’re flying through clouds in the midnight sky. The rhythmic drums do not distract from the alternate reality that is being created, and this percussion is a perfect addition to the 70s inspired keyboard and layered synth melodies. The dream-like atmosphere remains uninterrupted by the driving bass lines.
