Preview: Meló to release new single ‘Castle’

Melanie Percy, also known as Meló, will be releasing her new single ‘Castle‘ this Friday. Here at Safe and Sound, we are happy to announce that you can hear the track a day early.

Meló is a Candian-Hungarian singer-songwriter who moved to the UK in 2018 to pursue her music career. She has previously performed shows in her hometown of Toronto, now living and performing in London.

The haunting synths in the introduction of the song sets the scene of this track, fuelled by a young girl’s voice laughing. The rhythmic beat of the drums will instantly make you groove along, despite the melancholy lyrics. Meló states that her intention is “To create a bittersweet contrast between the more upbeat instrumentals and sombre vocals, to bring light to more serious situations”. This is something that she has successfully achieved through this track, telling the story of a girl living in an imaginary world, known as a paracosm. She struggles to face reality, when she is more comfortable and happy in her dream-like haven.

The stand out lyrics on this track are “Little girl don’t you cry / Your fairytale waits when you close your eyes“. With the pandemic bringing a lot of unforeseen and difficult circumstances to our daily lives, I believe a lot of us can relate to wanting somewhere to escape to. Meló writes music about her mental health struggles to destigmatise these topics. Bringing tough topics to the forefront of discussions is something she believes can help and support others who are struggling.

’Castle’ is a part of an EP due to be released later in the year, featuring her previously released track ‘Counting Sheep‘. We have been lucky enough to hear a preview of the EP already, and you will not be disappointed by the full release. Meló will be performing at The Amersham Arms later this year, an event you would be mad to miss.
