The Isle of Wight’s very own Lauran Hibberd is set to release her second EP on July 30th, after dropping her latest track ‘How Am I Still Alive?’
This single is a collaboration with Lydia Night, lead vocalist of The Regrettes. Hibberd’s upcoming EP is titled ‘Goober’ and is set to be a massive hit. If her new EP features tracks with the same energy as previous releases like ‘Call Shotgun‘, then it will certainly go down a treat. The track was produced by Suzy Shinn, and mixed by Rob Kinelski.
Discussing the track with Gigwise, Hibberd expressed much excitement at the collaboration after having toured with The Regrettes in 2019: “I am super stoked to have Lydia (Night) sing on the track; I toured with The Regrettes in 2019 and THEY ROCK. It was so much fun, and I took so much from it, and Lydia is badass!”
‘How Am I Still Alive’ is upbeat and jam-packed full of wit. Both artists expertly combine their vocal stylings, instantaneously creating an earworm effect that will leave fans desperate to hit ‘play’ again. Mellow guitars and punchy drum beats combine perfectly with both vocalists’ voices, as they jam out to lyrics that depict the humdrum of life.
“You would still be smoking if the house burned down”
Speaking to Dork, Lauran describes the focus of the song to be Michael Cera, with the lyrics stating “I kiss his face when he tells me to, Yeah! He drops his trousers in my shampoo“. The track is definitely a dead ringer for his role of Paulie Bleeker in 2008’s young adult movie Juno. The song is a celebration of life, and in turn, a message to appreciate the mundane everyday occurrences we all go through.
