HAAL release second track, titled ‘Memorial’

Initially written on the back of an ex-girlfriend’s guitar, HAAL‘s new track ‘Memorial‘ is a post-rock production of guitars, bass and murmuring vocals.

‘Memorial’ is dark and grungy, described in an interview with Mix It All Up as ‘Janky, Industrial Gloom.’ The track is the post-rock/math quartet’s second release, after their debut track ‘Carmen Jones.’ The initial release has over 1,700 streams, despite only being released last year. Not unlike popular hits from bands like Nirvana and Placebo, the vocals on ‘Memorial’ are lazy and repetitive, yet instrumentally the song is a refreshing testament to post-math rock.

Clocking in at five minutes and seven seconds, this track is certainly one with an explosive edge. Introduced by a quiet, slow rhythm, the listener is approached unnoticed by a heavy climax – a cacophony of devilish riffs, amplified bass lines and harsh drums.

The music video could very well be depicted as a visual representation of the repetitiveness of ‘Memorial’ in its entirety, with visible hints to the bands rock roots like the neon lights and concrete floor-to-ceilings that you would see in a live music venue.

HAAL, comprised of members Alfie Hay, Joe Frost, Ethan Jones and Joe Collins; plan to release a series of further tracks throughout the year. They have a live show booked at Bristol’s Rough Trade record store, and a virtual live stream coming up, via GravyTrain.
