Maud releases new single ‘Alone Together’

Norwegian electro-pop artist Maud sings of isolation, in her haunting new singleAlone Together.’

Hot on the heels of her 2020 single ‘Bad Things’, Maud takes inspiration from the COVID pandemic and taps into a universal feeling of loneliness and the fear of losing the ones we love:

“How come you leave so easily / Even though I’m begging you to stay / How come you escape so easily /  Even though I’m tearing up again”

Filled with ethereal ambient sounds, punctuated by Maud’s heavily auto-tuned vocals, ‘Alone Together’ is stripped back and sparse. The song is an open and empty space in which Maud takes the listener’s hand and reassures us that, despite feeling alone, we are experiencing the same things. “The last year we’ve all kind of been alone, but together in dancing theses strange times. I hope the song can give the listener a sense of togetherness,” Maud explains.

The dark atmosphere of Maud’s songs is captivating. The grit and edge heard in her previous songs has gone, replaced with a raw vulnerability that is new to Maud’s sound.

Devoid of drums until the last minute or so of the track, the light and flowing soundscape that so beautifully encapsulates the feeling of being alone in a big world is suddenly pulled together by a beat that lifts the song to a place of joy. This moment is surely something of a musical epiphany. “We can be alone / We can be alone together,” are words repeated throughout the song. They suddenly change from words utters in sadness and despair, to words sung with power and strength. We might be alone, but al least we are alone together.

‘Alone Together’ is Maud’s fourth release to date, and she has teased a mesmerising debut album later this year.
