Amava Releases New Single ‘Just Fine’

Nashville based Amava has stepped into 2021 with her brand new single ‘Just Fine’.

Amava has cited Charli XCX as one of her biggest inspirations, a comparison which is impossible to ignore whilst listening to this synth-heavy, pop perfect tale of wild parties and the struggle to fit in.  The slow, steady beat and languorous, brooding chords perfectly encapsulate the warm, hazy atmosphere of a house party. Everyone is drunk or stoned, feeling all of their feelings with zero inhibitions. Some are falling asleep on the sofa, whilst others are jumping into the swimming pool. Outwardly everyone is having the time of their life. But inside, no one really quite knows what they’re doing there: ‘There’s always someone who cries in the bathroom / While we all look for something to do…We’re just fine.’

The chorus picks up slightly, but the pensive mood remains: ‘We’re texting our exes ‘bout how much we miss them / when we’re all looking for the next ones…Just about midnight now/shut it down, tired out / crawling home sleepy, hopeless. We’re just fine.’

But with all this uncertainty and fear, a glimmer of hope still remains. There’s a hope for a future where we finally understand our place in the world, the reason why we’re here: ‘Someday I’ll be somebody. Hope someday I’ll be somebody./Someday I’ll be somebody. But for now I’m just fine.’

I’m Just Fine – Words repeated throughout function as something of a mantra. Repeated in a bid to convince others, and ourselves, that they’re true.

A song I’m sure many people can relate to, it’s hard not to get swept up in the catchy melody and evocative lyrics, and reminisce about our own teenage years – the moments we felt unsure of our place in the world, the moments we thought a good party and a few drinks would put the world to rights, but made everything ten times worse.

Releasing ‘Just Fine’ 3 months after her last single, ‘Zombies’, Amava is setting herself up for great things, creating songs that are both heartfelt and effortlessly cool. Songs that make you think, whilst making you want to dance. Which leaves us begging the question…when is the album out?
