Wild Rivers Release New Single ‘Love Gone Wrong’

On a high after the success of their recent EP, Canadian folk-pop band Wild Rivers are back with their new single ‘Love Gone Wrong.’ The song is something we didn’t know we needed, to fill the gaping and emotional hole the previous year has left us.

Wild Rivers are known for making music that people can really connect with on an emotional basis. Their previous EP Songs to Break Up To had us laughing, crying and dancing in the rain like we were straight out of a Netflix teen rom-com. The band have done it once again with this new single.

‘Love Gone Wrong’ tells a hauntingly beautiful story of a relationship which is edging towards breaking point. The lyrics delve into happy memories, told in a saddening minor key. The sound mirrors the ageing of the character being described in the track. Listening to a song like this, you can’t help but think back to better times, before the pandemic when everything was good, strong and secure. The lyrics ‘Like laughing til you can’t breathe / Tripping on your own feet / Dancing to a heartbreak song / It’s like love gone wrong’ hit harder than ever at a time like this. It puts into perspective just how much time we have lost, and the memories we could have been making.

The male / female dynamic of Wild Rivers has aided their exceptional ability for storytelling through songs. Their music allows the listener to hear the story from both perspectives, something uncommon in music these days. Khalid Yassein and Devan Glover have the positive chemistry matched to that of Fleetwood Mac in the era of Rumours. Their beautiful harmonies seem to dance from the guitar and keys, leaving you hanging off their every line, wanting more.

The first chorus has a feeling of screaming into a cold night or laying in the snow when you just need to feel something. The progression of the song towards the bridge has the same amount of emotional euphoria as getting a hug from your favourite person after a long night. This song seems to have shown us all that there is light at the end of the ever-extending tunnel. Kicking off 2021 with a bang, we can be sure that more brilliant things will be coming from this growing group.
