The Magic Gang has the cure for that winter depression that we all inevitably experience. There is no better early Christmas present than music being released without warning, so thank you to The Magic Gang. Their new single ‘Somebody Like You‘ has given us a kick of serotonin and vitamin D that we are severely lacking.
The simplicity of the guitar riff eases my mind – a laid back feeling washes over me. If The Beatles’ ‘Here Comes The Sun‘ melody had a baby with ‘Big Yellow Taxi‘ (Joni’s Mitchell’s version, of course) – this song would be it. Even though we lost this summer because of the pandemic, this song transports me to next year where I can listen to this on a beach in Spain while I am drinking my fifth Pornstar Martini on an empty stomach. Or, when I am a bit sunburnt walking back with my floatie under my arm. This song gives me a feeling that I hope we all can experience in August of 2021.
‘Somebody Like You’ is the first self-produced song the band has released, just right after their second album Death of the Party. The track discusses the power of friendship, in particular the relationships you make when playing in a band. Furthermore, the track sounds as though it would be sung around a bonfire at the end of a summer fling movie, with a montage of the memories that the group has made along the way.
The Magic Gang really did not miss a trick with this song. It is a perfect song to listen to if you need cheering up, if the Café Nero Terry’s Hot Chocolate Orange didn’t do that for you already.
