Hyperpop star Slayyyter has released the final single from her upcoming album ‘Troubled Paradise‘, a track titled ‘Over This!‘
On ‘Over This!’, the St. Louis native veers away from the club-ready bubblegum sound of previous singles ‘Clouds‘ and ‘Troubled Paradise‘. She has proven her versatility with this über catchy noise-pop anthem à la Sleigh Bells, putting her own twist on the typical break-up track. In the run-up to the album’s release on June 11th, she has provided us with the sex-positive banger ‘Throatzillaaaa‘ and the country-inspired ‘Cowboys‘. She’s shown a willingness to experiment with different sounds, blossoming her confidence as a songwriter.
She never strays too far from her hyperpop roots though, as ‘Over This!’ pays homage to some of the genre’s biggest stars including Dylan Brady of 100 Gecs and Dorian Electra. Both artists are known for their unique sound that combines pop, punk and everything in between. She made her debut with a series of Y2K-inspired songs in 2018, collaborating with artists like Boy Sim and Ayesha Erotica. Slayyyter – born Catherine Slater – quickly developed an online fanbase that helped secure her a spot supporting pop pioneer Charli XCX on tour, and release her self-titled mixtape in 2019.
For her long-awaited debut album, Slayyyter has promised to provide a more personal insight into her life since she stepped into the spotlight. In an industry that continues to be incredibly male-dominated, Slayyyter is determined to retain complete creative control of her sound and image. This is a strategy that is clearly working in her favour as she forges her own path through the world of hyperpop.
