Hockeysmith releases new acid-house bop ‘Sorrelful’

Duo-turned-solo-act Hockeysmith has come through with a third collab with Ed Banger producer Borussia. The two have recently worked together on a multitude of acclaimed tracks, including Hyper Kobra’ and ‘Down Love. The glittering synth star is back with a brand new bop to get us ready for what will (hopefully) be a summer of pool parties, club nights and fun.

On the release of the track, Hockeysmith (AKA Annabel) explains her choice of spelling for the track title: “It references the flower sorrel, which represents joy and good-heartedness, it is believed to contain magical healing properties”. The play on words work perfectly with her strong, flowing lyrics. They were written by Annabel and her friend Alice, who drew on their own memories and experiences of empowerment.

“Lockdown has been a really difficult time for people living on their own and this song is about bringing joy and good times to everyone, especially younger women”.

The beat itself is somewhat stripped back, in comparison to the previous tracks from the pair’s collaborations. However, the dance track’s summer vibes are ever prevalent, with the singer commenting “It’s the rhythm and the pulse – it’s a sound that feels good and makes you move”.

‘Sorrelful’ came together in one afternoon after Hockeysmith asked Borussia ‘What good beats have you got?‘ This level of nonchalance demonstrates an insane musical partnering, but previous, well-received singles have proven that they are a duo that works. Hopefully, there are many more to come!
