Conan Gray has returned with his latest single ‘Astronomy‘. This new track is rumoured to be the second single from his upcoming sophomore album ‘Worlds Apart*’.
Conan Gray gained his success after posting regular videos on his Youtube channel and later became a full-time recording artist, gaining recognition from artists like Billie Eilish and Taylor Swift. Known as a hardcore Swiftie, Gray has always been influenced by country music, and you can hear this from the acoustic strumming in ‘Astronomy’. He continues the theme from ‘The Story‘, a previously released single. Both tracks share how two people can slowly become more distant as they reach adulthood. Despite their strong history, it seems almost hopeless to try and reconcile.
“Oh, we’ve travelled the seas, we’ve ridden the stars,
We’ve seen everything from Saturn to Mars,
As much as it seems like you own my heart,
It’s astronomy, we’re two worlds apart.”
For the fans of Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, Conan Gray will be a refreshing find and a great contrast to have in your playlist. About his upcoming album, via NME he shares:
“Some days I’m very, very happy and I want to sing about daydreaming about an alternate reality where I can just find some stranger and move to a different country with them. Other days, I am barely capable of leaving my bed… I think people can expect the full range of human emotion out of me. I don’t think I could control myself enough to not give people that.”
Conan Gray has managed to keep up his soft boy aesthetic and continues to break people’s hearts with his pure fragility. He has combined careful storytelling, a falsetto bridge and a small number of guitar chords to craft this expressive track.
