Laurel Smith releases new single ‘Out the Cage’

Dark, sultry and alluring, Laurel Smith takes control in her first single of the year, titled ‘Out the Cage’. The London based talent delivers a fresh approach to electro-pop as she injects elements of R&B and hip-hop, with a moody, atmospheric edge.

Accompanied by an equally haunting set of visuals, Laurel displays her fearlessness in a series of danger-ridden situations, showing that she is not to be messed with. Artistically nodding to the likes of Ashnikko and Billie Eilish, Laurel Smith opens the gate into a fantasy-style world within her craft, with her discography carrying a running theme of VR and video games. Discussing ‘Out The Cage’, she explains: I created a story around a bored housewife, falling out of love with her husband. She fantasises about tying him up and leaving him to be a badass assassin in a video game type world”. Smith’s thrilling creative vision and adept narrative building is seriously gripping. She cleverly mirrors the idea of a ‘video game’ metaphor sonically throughout the track, with glitchy, trippy style sounds, and distorted vocals.

Lyrically expressing the feeling of breaking through life’s barriers, Laurel’s talents as a wordsmith are showcased to the best of their ability in her latest offering.

“Girl gone bad ‘cause I’m out the cage now”

Smith’s distinctive raspy vocal tone is interestingly both lulling yet eerie, and will no doubt catch your attention from the first note she utters. Her effortlessly cool aesthetic and badass energy fills a void in the UK pop scene, as her niche brand is super memorable and sets her apart from the rest. Since her debut back in 2019, Smith has been navigating her way through different theatrical personas and penning sassy, empowering lyrics. In turn, it has earned her a growing fan base and high praise from a global audience.

This catchy number and hazy video make for an exciting return for the young artist, leaving us in eager anticipation for what she will unveil next.
