Cody Frost teases upcoming EP with latest track ‘High/Bye’

A bright and eccentric young artist, 21-year-old Cody Frost is an uncompromising lyricist. She is set to take the rock music scene by storm after releasing her second single ‘HIGH / BYE’.

Viewers of the British music TV show The Voice may already be acquainted with the alt-pop stylings of Cody Frost, but the rest of the world is about to be hit by her unwavering force. Her debut track ‘verbal warnings‘ amassed over 80,000 streams within its first week of release, introducing Frost as an artist with a singular, uncompromising outlook. Her first track is a lyrical ‘fuck you‘ to a boss who assumed that she would tolerate his condescension, for the sake of keeping her job.

Her latest track ‘HIGH / BYE’ represents a softer side to her debut, but continues to stay true to her refreshing defiance and self-empowering charisma. Speaking to Paper Mag about her latest release, Cody claims to have reached her “final form” in the music video. Directed by Naomi Kane, the video sees Frost embrace her creative side through her makeup and incredible hairstyle to depict a cherry red clown.

‘HIGH / BYE’ delves into Frost’s discomfort of growing up, leaving behind the innocence of childhood and fleeting friendships. This new track incorporates themes of depression and anxiety perfectly. She does this through her delivery of angsty, emotional lyrics that are performed alongside a symphony of brass instruments and guitar. A metaphor for being left behind, the lyrics make ‘HIGH / BYE’ the perfect song to depict the woes and lows of growing up.

You guys all went to uni, and made loads of friends and did loads of drugs / And I stayed at home, and I got a job / now I’m staring at my phone waiting for a call

When discussing her new song, Frost said: “‘HIGH / BYE’ is about that period in your life when you think you might be growing up. When your friends all move to different areas for university, and when you see them again the conversation is stale and weird. But I didn’t go to university, so this is based on my experience being stuck at home”.

‘HIGH / BYE’ and ‘verbal warnings’ are singles that will be featured on Cody Frost’s debut EP, set to be released this summer.
