Ava Zarate has just released her latest offering, a single titled ‘Tainted Eyes‘ featuring Violet Jones.
Zarate has made herself known as a modern, experimental jazz singer, producing emotive, moody tracks with a sultry beat. ‘Tainted Eyes’ is certainly no exception. It has a smooth, flowing beat that is stripped down to its bare bones, showcasing Ava Zarate’s gentle, fluttering vocals. Known for her “Confessional and sometimes too honest” lyrics, Zarate opens the song with just that:
“It’s very clear that everyone / Everybody wants you here / A room full of eyes / ‘I can’t take it / Feel I’m falling / More and more for you”
Zarate embodies a haunting yet confessional tone that you can’t help but carry on listening to. The chorus is just as honest, talking about the intense feeling of falling for someone who knows exactly how you feel about them. The addition of Violet Jones’ warm vocals contrasts with the airy nature of Zarate’s, yet they blend well together, giving the track variation and depth ‘Tainted Eyes’ seems almost sad because of its raw, open and honest lyrics, but the ease of both vocalists and the smooth beat makes the track fit for a popular slow jazz playlist.
The Ladbroke Grove-based singer recently released her second EP ‘What I Think Of You’, described as”Psych soul-inspired pop”. This five-track EP is similar to ‘Tainted Eyes’ in the simplicity of her jazz / bossa nova influences. However, it does feature more uplifting beats, showcasing Zarate’s dream-like nature.
