Manchester-based four-piece The Covasettes have just released their new single ‘Modern Rapunzel.’
The Covasettes were formed in 2017, and have steadily grown in popularity since their inception. Their tracks have been heard on the radio up and down the country, and the band has been featured in interviews with the likes of Scott Mills and Fearne Cotton. Over the past few years, they have sold out shows around the UK, and supported bands like The Sherlocks and The Hara on tour.
Their newest single ‘Modern Rapunzel’ is another brilliantly crafted indie track to bless the alternative music scene. The smoothness of the guitar mixes makes space for the warm vocals performed by Chris Buxton. This isn’t something that is so common in indie-rock tracks, but something that we are forever going to be thankful for. The guitar melodies are often very forward and central in the mix, which can sometimes result in a clutter that can be uncomfortable for the listener. Luckily, The Covasettes have this down to a fine art.
The melodies in this song are something particularly intriguing, especially in the prechorus as they sing “tomorrow.” It perfectly lifts the mood up for the chorus, which has a similarly inviting melody. My favourite part of the song is definitely the bridge, with a sing-along vocal section. This is a regular motif in many pop songs, but is made more interesting in the indie track alongside the melodies of their lead guitar.
The Covasettes have a spotless track record, releasing banger after banger with catchy melodies and warm productions. Their music has a tendency to make you feel good, and certainly makes you want to dance, and this new track is certainly not breaking the streak. With every release, The Covasettes manage to bring their sound forward even more, learning and progressing with every new mix. I cannot wait to see how far this band will go, as I can already tell that it definitely will be far.
