After transcending the milestone of 10,000 streams in 2020, Oxygyn is back with another tune, called ‘Mercy,’ released via 141 Records.
‘Mercy’ explores the narrative of an individual becoming vulnerable, and how being in that state can potentially be turned against you. Within the song, there are heavenly harmonies that accompany a catchy riff, dreamy sounds, and unique lyrics about struggling in life. This adheres to the description released by the band, suggesting that the track is a ‘banger filled with anger.’
The Maltese electronic pop group is made up of sibling vocal duo Katia and Kurt Abela, Zack on guitars, and Luke Camilleri aka Funky Monkey who produces their tracks. Oxygyn has developed a running theme in their music, representing and addressing the different issues that we experience from day to day. With that in mind, you can still enjoy their music and dance around, no matter the mood you’re in.
Summer is approaching, and I can imagine ‘Mercy’ being played on a festival ground as you walk in, beer in hand. It’s something we really need right now, with how the past year has gone. Until then, I will be blasting it through my speakers, pretending to be there.
Oxygyn has already received a great amount of support in 2020 back at home. The band celebrated the number one spot on PRS Malta’s Top 10 Charts, with tracks ‘Wicked White Lies’ and ‘Venom.’ Their international growth is slowly but surely increasing, with them gaining recognition from BBC Introducing in 2020.
The band also has some news on the horizon, so keep your eyes peeled if you like their new song as much as I did.
