Nasty Cherry release new single ‘Her Body’

Nasty Cherry have just delivered their explosive new single ‘Her Body‘, taken from their upcoming EP ‘The Movie.’ It is the second single from the EP, following the release of ‘Lucky‘ earlier in the year.

The single was co-written in just one day, with producer Yves Rothman and mentor Charli XCX, who put together the all-female band. Consisting of singer Gabi Bechtel, guitarist Chloe Chaidez, bassist Georgia Somray and drummer Debbie Knox-Hewson, the quartet starred in the Netflix docuseries I’m With The Band: Nasty Cherry in 2019. The show tells the story of the band’s origins, following them through the process of writing and recording, attending rehearsal sessions, and the inevitable drama that comes from living together in Los Angeles.

Nasty Cherry have developed an alternative pop sound tinged with a rock ‘n roll aesthetic, listing The Runaways, The Donnas and Cher as musical inspirations. Sound-wise, ‘Her Body’ follows this formula with a snappy lo-fi beat, mellow bassline and hazy synths, tied together with alluring layered vocals. Lyrically, it expresses the frustration of a jilted lover: “How’s it feel to waste my time / Breaking hearts and crossing lines”.

In an interview with Dork, the band shared their thoughts on the track: “It’s spiky and cocky and a bit teasing, but also insecure, and you can dance to it. It’s emotionally very pure and honest”.

Nasty Cherry have previously released two EPs, titled ‘Season 1’ and ‘Season 2’. Although they are yet to release a full-length album, the band have amassed over 225,000 monthly listeners on Spotify. Their next EP will feature ‘Her Body’ and ‘Lucky’, alongside three unreleased tracks. ‘The Movie’ will be released on April 2nd via Charli XCX’s label Vroom Vroom Recordings.
