She is angry and she will scream her lungs out for every single artist in the world if she has to. The English and Canadian punk baby YNES has started to revolt, expressing her disappointment and hopelessness about the future of the Arts Sector after Brexit. Maybe the third lockdown has gotten to her, but she totally has a point, in her track ‘Better Job.’
Regarding the heartbreaking comments from the British Finance Minister Rishi Sunak about the creative industries and the way artists should retrain and adapt to different professions, this track is a rebellion. The lyrics and YNES’ performance is her own way of coping, and making fun of the absurd politic beliefs expressed. You can feel her spitting on the UK’s Parliament in London and land on Sunak’s face.
“If you want we’ll all get better jobs but you can throw away your DVDs /
You can unsubscribe from Netflix and delete your music library.”
Mixing herself screaming, smashing the drums and destroying guitar riffs, her production sound almost like a live performance recording in a small basement venue. Sometimes going off pitch and not being afraid to wander away in her own melodies, she shows her punk confidence and passion for what she does. During the pandemic in the UK, she has been spending more time home to write, produce and create. YNES has illustrated the potential talents and creativity of DIY artists, which shows in her music video and single artwork. Utilising bright colours, grand personality and an attractive sense of style, she is a magnet for anyone who comes close to her content.
YNES is not perfect and she does not want to be, stating that she’s an ‘amateur musician and a professional fuck-up.’
