Taylor Swift has done it again. With ten Grammys under her belt already, she has shown this year she means business, and she has proven it with the announcement of yet another album release. To bless the announcement of the new and improved version of her 2008 success Fearless, Taylor has released a new version of the iconic noughties hit, Love Story; Taylor’s Version.
The new album is a new version of the one that rocked 2008, and boosted Taylor into the charts and into our hearts. But this isn’t all we have to look forward to with this album, we can expect to see six previously unreleased songs, meaning even more Taylor content! I think I can speak for a lot of young girls by saying we grew up on this album. This was probably one of the first albums that we begged our mums for, and played in the car on repeat. The album that saw us entering our teen years, crying over boys, spots and school, the album we screamed into our hairbrushes and the album that lit the spark for a love of music. And now we have the grownup, matured version to look forward to. Taylor did not disappoint with her new version of ‘Love Story’, just in time for Valentine’s Day.
The new version of ‘Love Story’is the nostalgia hit we needed, and fans certainly see it this way. Many have grown up with this album, and this song feels like the new version has grown up too. Although it’s the same song with the same lyrics and with the same heart throbbing melody, Taylor’s Version emits a type of growth we see in ourselves and in Taylor’s career. From the cleaner mix, to the small staccato hicks and pauses, everything about this song screams emotional euphoria exactly the same way it did back in 2008.
We can certainly say that after 12 years, the song has soundtracked iconic movies and even TikTok trends, the new version is cleaner in the mix and a maturity in the bassline really shows that type of growth we have all experienced over this past year. To sum up Taylor’s successes over the past few months I think this tweet does it quite nicely. Baby just say yes.
