Syd Releases Anti-Love Song ‘Missing Out’

A song about an old flame released the weekend before Valentine’s Day? That’s what The Internet’s frontwoman and leading vocalist, Syd, did. ‘Missing Out’ is Syd’s first solo release since her debut album in 2017.

The song is ethereal and multidimensional, transporting the listener into an alternate universe with a techno-synth sounding riff and steady drumbeat. Venting about an ex Syd sings:

“Hope you’re finding what you need / Or what you seek / Cause now I’m free / And maybe in another life / You’d be mine mine mine.”

The ballad is sensual, simple, and relatable, serving as a reminder that while you may miss your ex this Valentine’s Day, there’s a reason it didn’t work out.

Syd’s rise to fame came during her time as lead vocals for alternative R&B group, The Internet, who was nominated for a Grammy in 2016 for the Best Urban Contemporary Album. She has also worked with other notable peers in the industry, like Tyler the Creator, Kehlani, Drake, and Free Nationals.

Could this be the first song off an upcoming album release in 2021? I guess we will have to wait and see…
