There is nothing we love more than a surprise collaboration being sprung on us. Rita Ora has definitely done this by recently dropping her EP ‘Bang’, released on February 12th.
The EP is a creative collaboration with DJ and producer Imanbek. For those who are unsure, Imanbek is a Kazakhstan-born producer that dominated the charts in Europe with his remix of ‘Roses’ by SAINt JHN. Some may see Rita Ora’s decision to work with him as a way to shine and elevate his success further into the UK Charts. The two have teamed up, and bring the strong elements of Euro Dance to the EP.
‘Bang Bang’ is heavily sampled from Swedish CGI’s Crazy Frog, from the song ‘Axel F.’ This track is a signature anthem for all Euro/Electronic Dance lovers. It is also worth noting that Crazy Frog sampled this from Harold Faltermeyer’s original ‘Axel F.’ That’s 3 versions of one song! Rita Ora puts her own playful spin on it by including her flirtatious verses and spirited vocals. This will most likely be a post lockdown hit in the summer.
“Ooh, you showed up and made me wonder / Looking fun but kinda dangerous too”
Another track that strongly reflects her love of electronic dance is her leading single ‘Big’, which features David Guetta. I would consider this to be a Super Feature as it also includes mumble rapper Gunna spinning a rap verse towards the end of the song. Rita gives us fast-paced verses which could even be considered as a rap to some! This song has so much variety, its appeal to audiences is clearly there. Notably, you can hear David Guetta’s influences like the upbeat flanged bass synthesizer. We can all say having Guetta on board with this project was a thumbs up from us.
In addition, ‘The One’ also has similar Euro Dance elements. Highlighting particularly her chopped vocals, it is easily a song that allows you to envision going out, seeing your friends and socialising once again.
Having mentioned all these nostalgic electronic elements, the EP takes a different route down the Trip-Hop road, in the song ‘Mood.’ ‘Mood’ is a song that has intermodal changes with a composition based around influences from Trap and Hip-Hop music. These qualities give the EP a different type of flavour, especially with a feature from rapper KHEA. I can say this song truly changes the mood of the EP (pun intended).
Ultimately, this is a release that will give everyone good vibes. With everything the world is lacking, this EP gives. It has an upbeat energy, and is positive and sexy. With an abundance of confidence, ‘Bang’ is an EP that will uplift you into exercising, and feeling good.
