Maggie Baring Releases New Single ‘Poem’

Maggie Baring, a young emerging singer song-writer, has spent the majority of her time in lockdown creating music. Her latest single, ‘Poem’, reflects the challenges in making music, which also speaks to the wider realities of the pandemic.

Much like her other songs, ‘Poem’ is acoustic and mellow. Maggie’s music is inspired by her own everyday experiences, and aims to reach those who are able to take a moment to escape the world and feel uplifted by her music. The simplicity of her music is refreshing and creates a space away from the other complexities of life. The lyrics drop relatable moments for listeners, with one captured in the line:

“I caught a storm in a bottle, and I watch it as it tries to get away, like everyday”

The mundane trivialities which can become tireless and begin to lose their meaning are defeated by never giving in. Maggie said, “I felt very helpless because my brain had frozen and I couldn’t write anything. So, I decided to write about not being able to write. As I progressed through creating the lyrics, I felt my imagination returning to me and it was one of the most cathartic experiences I’ve ever had.”

“Sometimes it’s tough, and the world’s a scary place”

It is important for Maggie to re-centre and return to her music, which she feels lucky to be able to do, and looks to share this with her listeners. The song builds towards the middle, where, just like the poem, it soars. At the end, it rests easy, and restores any sense of struggle. This is the kind of song which has a calming effect on your mind as you listen, and allows some perspective to filter into your outlook.

It’s definitely worth watching Maggie Baring’s progression, as she moves forward in her music career.
