Oxford based trio Jody and the Jerms have released a new song entitled ‘Get Me Out.’ The track is their first song to be released since their debut album ‘Deeper’ which came out last year on JATJ Records.
Having formed as a band in 2019, Jody and the Jerms have built up a small but steady catalogue of ’90s-influenced indie tunes, whose sound can be compared to the likes of Doves and Mazzy Star. The band teased new music on their Instagram account in November. In the lead up to the release of ‘Get Me Out’, the band posted a short snippet of the song. The band described the track as being about ‘small town boredom, and yearning to escape it.’
Compared to their other music, ‘Get Me Out’ has much more of a country feel to it. It is clear that Jody and the Terms have been influenced by the likes of ABBA and Fleetwood Mac in their Rumours era. The track is a clear illustration of being trapped in a town, and how it can happen to anyone, regardless of their age. It’s not just people in their teens that are desperate the leave the place they currently live. Such a topic makes this song quite relatable for the majority of listeners, particularly when we are stuck at home throughout the pandemic.
However, the production on this track slightly lets the band down as at times. The sound of the guitar and drums drowns out the lead vocals so that they’re practically inaudible at various intervals. This is such a shame, considering the fact that the bands are very talented and clearly know what they want from their music.
