Newcastle based synth stars Drive have arrived back at our ears with their new single, titled ‘The Routine.’ Combining old school sounds with a fresh face, these lads are truly on the rise.
Introducing the track with dramatic synth melodies and echoing backing vocals, this track is 100% reminiscent of a summer romance movie soundtrack. Sounding like the perfect song to be played over a romantic montage, ‘The Routine’ features warm vocals from Jake Fletcher.
Drive clearly use their musical influences to shape and form their new music, with their new track sounding similar to something The 1975 and Empire of the Sun might release on a collab. On an immediate listen, you’re filled with feelings of being back on the beach in the sun, or dancing in a club in Soho.
The duo was formed in Newcastle Upon Tyne, featuring members of the Fletcher Jackson Band, and VITO. They have performed at large-scale festivals like Hit The North, despite their first singles only being released last year.
“Everywhere I go, I have worn these two left feet down to the bone / With no signs of fatigue, this feeling grows”
Synth and guitar player Andy Bell has injected the sounds of an 80s pop banger into the track, with the electronic melody providing a wave for the song’s lyrics to be carried. The lyrics depict someone ‘trying to get on with their life’ without someone, despite not being able to get them out of their head.
This new track is giving us August beach vibes, brought on by synthy goodness, and warm and gooey vocals. Arguably, nostalgia is the only thing keeping us warm this January.
