Pale Waves Release New Single ‘Change’

What do you get when you mix Love Story by Taylor Swift and Complicated by Avril Lavigne? You get Change by Pale Waves.

Personally, this is my first time getting to know this band. I have heard about them, that for sure, but for some reason something always came up that I never sat down and actually listened to them. However, just like the song suggested, today I am a changed woman.

Pale Waves are a relatively new band, formed in 2014 in Manchester. They made their debut with their track There’s A Honey in 2017, following their record deal with Dirty Hit Records. Change is the first single off their upcoming album, Who Am I? If the songs to follow are as catchy, they have nothing to worry about – but this song will be hard to follow.

Change begins stripped down, and gently builds up as the chorus hits. Singing about breakups with such a fast tempo instrumental always does something to me – it gives me some sort of power ride (GIRLS RULE BOYS DROOL!) If that is what the band was trying to convey, they certainly succeeded.

This track is a good introduction to the band. Whether you like it or not, you will not forget who Pale Waves are, as the chorus will be stuck in your head after your first listen. You know how when you were younger you would use your hairbrush as a microphone, and sing in the mirror? Yes, that’s what this song makes you want to do.

Change is a wistful throwback to the early 2000s, a track that wouldn’t feel out of place on the Pop Princesses or Now That’s What I Call Music compilations.
