Expressing heartfelt vulnerability and empathy, Arlo Parks has returned with her breathtaking new single Green Eyes.
Hailed as one of London’s brightest sparks, and BBC Introducing’s Artist of the Year, Arlo Parks has chasséd into the hearts of her newest fans. Following her single releases of Hurt and Sophie, Parks has returned to our screens with her new video and track release for Green Eyes.
Described by BBC Radio 1 as being ‘a voice of our generation,’ Parks delves into the journey of self-discovery, self-expression, and acceptance in her new track. Green Eyes features woozy synth melodies and soothing, dreamy harmonies, featuring vocals and guitars from Clairo.
Green Eyes is the latest installment of Arlo Parks’ upcoming debut album, which launches in January of 2021. The lyrics reminisce of a relationship that lasted only a few months, because of the way they were treated: ‘eyes judging our love, baying for blood.’ Audibly, early 2000’s influences can be heard throughout, creating a warm feeling of nostalgia, for the audience’s previous relationships, and their history of breakups.
Anecdotal lyrics like ‘remember when they caught us making out after school’ recall a time of sneaking around as an adolescent, with the idea of new love being both exhausting and exciting in its own right. The sincere vocals in the pre-chorus suggest that the song is closing a chapter on Parks’ life, acknowledging that life isn’t perfect, but you can’t always blame people: ‘I could never blame you, darling.’
Parks has an innate ability to transform deep and dark issues into beautiful and melancholic new tracks, delivering an auditory form of relief and sensitivity. Green Eyes has illustrated how Parks is able to comfort and uplift audiences who are going through tough times, through the consumption of her music.
